Story 10
I had to work 5 years after matric in order to save for University fees, some of the jobs I did included cleaning toilets and sweeping the streets in Norwood, Johannesburg. I landed a retail job at Edgars and saved money just to cover the first year of study. In the five years I remember how humiliating it was to go from office to office, trying to tell my story and to get assistance nobody listened, everybody was following protocol. One of the years I was short by R500 to make up the registration amount but I was sent back home regardless, I cried, wiped my tears and moved on, the struggle was real. My mom was a domestic worker who earned R250.00 pm. Losing was not an option, I salute the youth of today for standing up, for fighting for other students who maybe in that situation, I am sure the money to subsidise Education can be sourced somewhere. #Feesmustfall‬
