Tim's post
The bittersweet moment when all the white people at the protest were asked to come to the front and form a barrier between the police and the protesters; and request to be arrested unless our comrades were released.
Why is it sweet? It forced the separation between those willing to support but not get their hands dirty, and those willing to commit themselves to an idea we (as white people) cannot, and should not ever be dominant voices or leaders within. It was also sweet because it showed the level to which unity between progressive people of privilege and the rising can achieve.
Why is it bitter? Because why the fuck do these Police feel comfortable to jump at the chance to arrest a peaceful black protester with teargas and stun grenades, but when it's white people - it's not ok.
White privilege stays astounding. #FeesMustFall
